Postgraduate Training in Sports and Exercise Medicine

The Faculty is delighted to inform you that the Higher Specialist Training programme in Sports and Exercise Medicine (HST SEM) has received formal accreditation from the Medical Council of Ireland in early 2017.  The training programme was signed off by the Minister for Health, Mr Simon Harris, in March 2017.

Programme Director: Dr Eanna Falvey

Dr Éanna Falvey MB BCh, PhD, FRCPI, MmedSci (SEM), FFSEM (IRL & UK), has been involved in team coverage for Hurling, Football, Boxing, Rugby, Australian Rules football at elite levels. Dr Falvey undertook a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Melbourne and a PhD at University College Cork. Dr Falvey was the Team Doctor to the Irish Senior Rugby Team and the Irish Boxing High Performance Unit, he was Team Doctor to the British & Irish Lions tour to Australia in 2013, and Head of Medical for the tour to New Zealand in 2017. His areas of research interest include concussion, overuse injury, groin and ACL injury and immune response to exercise. He is a member of the World Rugby concussion working group.
