Research Design Methods & Statistics


This course is designed to up-skill clinicians in a range of competencies relating to healthcare research, particularly in relation to the fundamentals of study design, protocol development and getting research published.

The course will introduce statistics so that it can be easily understood when reading peer review journals and can be incorporated into your own studies.

Learning objectives

  • Understand the principals of reporting guidelines
  • Have a clear knowledge of the principal quantitative study designs used in research
  • Explore a clear research question for your protocol
  • Avoid bias and confounding factors where possible in your study
  • Understand the statistics used in the literature
  • Calculate basic ‘likelihood estimations’
  • Understand the importance of Confidence intervals, Linear regression and correlation
