Pat Kenny in conversation with... Dr Spencer Johnson

29 October 2015

On Thursday, 29th October, RCSI Development & Alumni Relations launched ‘In conversation with...' a new event series that showcases and celebrates RCSI Alumni who are making a difference worldwide.

For this inaugural event, Dr Spencer Johnson, Medicine Class of 1968 and bestselling author of ‘The One Minute Manager' and ‘Who Moved My Cheese?', took the stage with Irish broadcasting veteran, Pat Kenny.

In front of an audience of 100 Alumni and friends, Dr Johnson and Pat Kenny engaged in a lively conversation about Dr Johnson's career, life and memories from his time in RCSI.

"It feels like coming home." said Dr Johnson as he recalled being inspired by many great educators, including Eoghan Lavelle and Harold Browne, from whom he learnt life lessons that remain with him to this today. Dr Johnson dedicated the evening in memory of former RCSI lecturer, Mr Harold Browne, who passed away in January.

Ms Aíne Gibbons, Director of Development & Alumni Relations, RCSI said: "We are honoured to welcome an RCSI Alumnus who is one of the world's most respected authors, Dr Spencer Johnson, to launch our inaugural event and look forward to announcing an exciting line-up of more thought-provoking speakers as the series continues into 2016 and beyond."

Sharing his books' fundamental theme of "simple and obvious ways to reduce stress", Dr Johnson and Pat Kenny engaged in a lively dialogue including audience interaction, as they discussed strategies for successfully dealing with change and why Dr Johnson turned from a fascination with illness to a focus on life.
