In conversation with... Dr Hedy Fry

05 February 2019

Dr Hedy Fry, Class of 1968, returned to RCSI Dublin in February 2019 to address students, alumni and guests at an event that marked the opening of the RCSI Charter Day programme.

The Honourable Dr Fry is a Trinidadian-Canadian politician and physician, and is currently the longest-serving female Member of Parliament, winning eight consecutive elections in the constituency of Vancouver Centre since the 1993 election.

Taking to the stage with Dr Ciara Kelly, Irish GP, broadcaster and award winning columnist, Dr Fry, daughter of a tailor and secretary, who brags that she can still dance in eight-inch heels, shared her story of growing up in Trinidad and Tobago, making the decision to come to RCSI thanks to nuns, Shakespeare and her parents' life savings, and how she broke the glass ceiling to become one of Canada's most prolific politicians.
