31 January 2017

On Tuesday, 31st January the Embassy of Ireland, Enterprise Ireland and RCSI Alumni hosted a special networking reception to mark the visit of Mr Pat Breen, Minister for Employment and Small Business to the UAE.

Minister Breen was joined by Irish Ambassador to the UAE Mr Patrick Hennessy, a delegation of 20 Irish healthcare and medtech companies and over 70 RCSI Alumni. The event took place at The Ritz Carlton to coincide with the Arab Health 2017 exhibition.

Dr Mohammad Al Redha (Medicine, 2003 & MSc, 2007), President of the UAE Alumni Chapter, welcomed his fellow Alumni and Irish guests to the event. Dr Tom Kelly, Divisional Manager of Industrial, Life Sciences and Consumer at Enterprise Ireland gave a brief overview of the strength of the Irish indigenous healthcare sector and the achievements of Irish companies in the region to date. Ambassador Patrick Hennessy then addressed the audience followed by Minister Pat Breen.

Speaking at the event Minister Breen said "I would like to take this opportunity to formally acknowledge the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI) as one of the best medical training institutions in the world and congratulate them on the success of their Dubai campus in the Mohamed Bin Rashed Medical Centre in Healthcare City. Last November, RCSI celebrated a significant millstone - when they marked 10 years of educating healthcare professionals at their campus in Dubai. RCSI has built a wonderful reputation here in the Gulf region. They have built this through the quality of their teaching and their long-term commitment but most of all they have built this reputation on the work of their graduates. I am delighted to have the opportunity to meet with so many of these graduates - graduates from both the College in Dublin and the Leadership Institute in Dubai. We are immensely proud of the achievements of the Alumni, as you continue to take a leading role in shaping and developing the health services in the region and we look forward to continuing to work with Dubai to develop the pipeline of healthcare leaders of the future."
