The Charitable Infirmary Charitable Trust

The Charitable Infirmary, more commonly known to Dubliners as 'Jervis St Hospital', was the first 'voluntary' hospital. As the name suggests medical care was provided free to the poor of Dublin from its foundation in 1718.

In 1987 the hospital staff and patients were transferred to Beaumont and the assets of the hospital were sold to create a trust fund to be used to support research in the new hospital. Among the many research initiatives which the Trust has supported are projects carried out by RCSI students during the summer period.
