Overview

This course will provide an overview of common and less common surgical emergency presentations.

A case-based format with interactive discussion will allow participants to make an accurate diagnosis and have a treatment plan for a wide spectrum of surgical emergencies.

Learning objectives

  • Apply the essential steps in the initial management of surgical emergencies that can be used on a day-to-day basis for clinical management
  • Improved understanding of investigations that can narrow the differential diagnosis
  • Learn how to detect important pathologies on X-ray, ultrasound and CT imaging in abdominal emergencies
  • Learn bedside imaging to rule in vascular emergencies
  • Review the common general surgery, vascular, urology, endocrine and T&O emergency presentations and management
