Surgical research

The Department of Surgery has a strong research programme. Our main area of interest is translational work on the coregulatory proteins in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of Breast cancer.

We have a strong research team under the guidance of Professor Arnold Hill and Dr Leonie Young. Dr Young’s active projects in the laboratory at the present time are looking at Cell Cycle Regulation of Breast Cancer Cells and Steroid Receptor transcriptional regulation.

In addition Professor Hill is also involved in clinical research improving quality of patient care through the prevention of surgical infection. This research has led to the development of a web-based learning programme for surgical trainees at surginfection.com
