Presentation guidelines

Registration

Firstly, don’t forget to register for the event! To ensure your submission is not withdrawn please register without delay on the Psychological Society of Ireland website.

On arrival, you can pick up your registration pack from the registration desk, which is located on the concourse as you enter the main doors in RCSI. The registration team will direct you to the room you will be presenting in so that you can hang up your poster and/or check your presentation in advance of your session.

All rooms have full audio-visual equipment, with lecterns and microphones. Please contact phm2017@rcsi.ie if you need other materials, for example, flipcharts or handheld microphones.

Before and during your oral presentation session

Please introduce yourself to the session Chair at the beginning of your session. The time allocation for each oral presentation is 15 minutes, which includes 12 minutes for your presentation and 3 minutes for questions. Due to the volume of papers scheduled, a strict limit of 15 minutes per presenter will be imposed. Session chairs are asked to ensure that this time limit is adhered to.

In the case of a missing presenter, chairs are asked to hold this slot free and where possible and adhere to the timetable in order to facilitate delegates moving between parallel sessions.

Please e-mail your presentation to the conference organising committee (phm2017@rcsi.ie) in advance of the conference deadline (Friday, 24 February at 5pm) so that we can ensure everything is set up for you on the day. As RCSI uses an encryption system, we cannot guarantee that your memory stick will work. There will be no time during the session to load your presentation. Please save your presentation in PowerPoint using the following naming format:

Surname_PresentationTime_PresentationLocation

For example: “Murphy_1100_Houston”or “Doyle_1445_TR2”

The time and location of your presentation are detailed on the conference programme.

Before and during your poster presentation session

Installation time for all posters starts from 9am and posters must be in place before the poster viewing session. Ensure your poster is mounted by the correct poster board number. The poster numbers are listed in the final programme. Velcro and/or pins will be provided. Presenters are expected to stand with their poster during the poster sessions so that they can engage with other delegates. Contact details of the presenting author can be found in the programme book.

  • Poster size: Posters should be A0 size, and in portrait orientation.
  • Poster mounting: Posters can be mounted using velcro dots – these will be supplied. Keep your poster within the confines of the allocated board. Do not write or paint on the board. Remove your poster at the end of the day; the organising committee will not be responsible for any posters that are not removed at the end of the Conference. If your poster has more than one author, all authors are responsible for the material on the poster. There is a wealth of information and guidance on how to prepare effective and professional posters available online, for example, the American Psychological Association website.
