School of Pharmacy facilities

A crucial aspect of the design of the School of Pharmacy was to ensure that students receive the optimal learning experience. As a result, several state of the art laboratories were built to very high specifications:

Dispensing laboratory

The practice laboratory in the School of Pharmacy was designed by pharmacists following site-visits to other state-of-the-art pharmaceutical care suites. The pharmaceutical storage facility was customised to specification and has proved to be a worthwhile investment. The overall result is a multi-functional space for practical training, where students get the opportunity to practice their knowledge and skills through simulated experience-based training, in a protected environment.

Pharmacology laboratory

The pharmacology laboratory in the School of Pharmacy is a state-of-the-art facility containing all essential material and equipment necessary to study the the effects of drugs on isolated tissues and organs. As a result the student experiences first hand practical training into the biological processes in living tissues. This together with their knowledge from fully integrated lectures enhances the learning experience.

Pharmaceutics laboratory

The pharmaceutics laboratory in the School of Pharmacy, is a state-of-the-art facility equipped with multiple processing, characterisation and analytical equipment which allow our students first hand practical training on pre-formulation testing, formulation and quality control testing of various dosage forms ranging from oral tablets to topical preparations and inhalation products. In addition, students have access to compounding facilities and equipment for the extemporaneous compounding of liquid, solid and semi solid dose forms. This practical focus allows our students to experience a fully integrated learning approach in the development of various pharmaceutical dosage forms and extemporaneous preparations reinforcing the skills and knowledge of our students in both pharmaceutical industry and clinical practice.

Chemistry laboratory

The pharmaceutical chemistry laboratory in the School of Pharmacy is a modern teaching facility fully equipped with fume hoods and other ancillary structures and equipment to enable high-level teaching of synthetic organic, inorganic and analytical chemistry. Analytical equipment at the disposal of laboratory users includes UV, NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy, GC-MS and elemental analysis.
