Professional Competence Scheme

Introduction

RCSI is formally recognised by the Medical Council to administer the Professional Competence Scheme for doctors in the following disciplines:

Surgery (all specialties)

Emergency Medicine

Sports & Exercise Medicine

Ophthalmology

REMINDER

You must accumulate 50 CPD credits and one Clinical Audit before April 30th 2013 and upload these activities to your PCS portfolio.

Framework for maintenance of professional competence activities

The minimum CPD requirements are 50 credits and 1 clinical audit per year. The following represents a breakdown of the various CPD categories:  

 External Maintenance of Knowledge & Skills 20 CPD credits per year minimum 
 Internal Practice Evaluation & Development 20 CPD credits per year minimum
 Personal Learning 5 CPD credits per year minimum
 Research & Training     2 CPD credits per year desirable
 Clinical Audit 1 per year

1 hour of activity accrues 1 CPD credit
