Minor Operations and Suturing Skills

Overview

This course offers participants the opportunity to master knot tying and suturing skills from first principals; receive formative feedback on instrument handling, tissue manipulation and wound closure techniques from experienced consultant surgeons; and perform minor operating procedures on low and high fidelity models.

Learning objectives

  • Understand safe and aseptic theatre etiquette
  • Practice closed gowning and patient draping methods
  • Know surgical instrument names, uses and correct handling
  • Perform one handed knots and instrument ties
  • Perform five different suturing techniques for wound closure
  • Understand the principles of dissection and closure technics used in the minor operating theatre

Who is this course suitable for? SHOs in all surgical specialties, emergency medicine doctors.
Fee Free for eligible NCHDs on the CPDSS programme or €300 for others.
