The Department of International Health & Tropical Medicine provides the following services:
  • Infectious disease outpatient clinic for sick travellers in Beaumont Hospital
  • In patient facilities for people who require hospitalisation at Beaumont Hospital
  • Tropical Medicine clinic at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda
  • Consultancy service in the areas of tropical medicine, viral diseases and international health are also available.

Beaumont Infectious Disease service

At St John's Ward in Beaumont Hospital the Infectious Disease Team provide confidential consultation, advice, diagnosis and treatment for ill people who might have an infectious illness.
  • There is a unique special focus of travellers who may have contacted illness while out of Ireland. Several people with malaria are treated each year.
  • We can see people urgently (if requested by a family doctor) and use the full range of diagnostic services available through Beaumont Hospital including, CT scan, MRI, malaria diagnostics, PCR testing for diagnosing and quantifying viral illnesses.
  • Full intensive care facilities, dialysis, interventional radiology, neurosurgery and facilities for stereotactic guided biopsy are available.
  • The service provides care for some hundreds of people with Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV infection and is a centre for specialist training in Infections Disease for doctors.
  • There is a complement of inpatient beds for those who require admission to hospital.
