Orientation
Orientation Day takes place on the first day of each new academic year and comprises a series of short lectures in the morning. These lectures are aimed at providing an overview of various functions within the College, such as:
The Orientation Day Programmes for the academic year 2013/2014 will be detailed below from the beginning of September 2013.
The Orientation Day includes a Welcome Address by the Dean of the Medical Faculty and an introduction to administrative staff and services. The President of the Students’ Union also announces the programme for Fresher's Week, which provides an opportunity to have fun, meet new friends and to join the wide selection of sports clubs and societies.
Registration will take place in the afternoon of Orientation Day. Once registered, you will be issued with your RCSI student card, which will give you access to the library, gym, computer labs and other areas of the RCSI campus. In addition, you will receive your laptop, log-in details for RCSI online services, including the Virtual Learning Envrionment (VLE - better known as Moodle), and your RCSI e-mail account.
Local service providers, e.g. banks, will be on hand in the College, setting up accounts and assisting you to access such services. Please note that you can not open a bank account or register with the Garda (Police) National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) until after you have completed your RCSI registration.
Due to restricted space, Orientation & Registration (i.e. the first part of Orientation Day) is for students only. Parents need not attend. A Parents' Reception will take place in the evening. This will provide family and friends with the opportunity to meet academic and administrative staff and to find out more about the College.
Please note that registration for the 4-year Graduate Entry Programme (GEP) takes place 2 weeks before the main registration. GEP students and their families are also welcome to join the Parents' Reception.
For further information, please contact the Admissions Office or the Student Services Office.
