Dr Debbi Stanistreet has recently joined the department as a Senior Lecturer in Public Health after 25 years at the University of Liverpool (UoL) in a similar role.

Debbi initially trained as a Registered General Nurse in the Isle of Man during the early 80s. She later moved into public health, undertaking her Master of Public Health (MPH) at the University of Liverpool in 1994, before embarking on a part-time PhD whilst working as a research associate in the Department of Public Health. Debbi was appointed as a lecturer in Public Health at UoL in 1996 and spent a number of years developing and running a campus-based MPH programme. She was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2006 and subsequently set up an online global MPH programme which now runs with up to 1000 participating students at any one time. She is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has previously fulfilled the role of Director of Widening Participation for Health and Life Sciences.

Debbi co-ordinates the Public Health Epidemiology module in RCSI’s direct and Graduate Entry Medicine programmes, and is actively involved in research in the field of household air pollution, specifically, maternal and child health in low income countries, and scaling up of cleaner household energy for cooking. She holds the position of Senior Honorary Research Fellow in Public Health at UoL and continues to collaborate with the Energy Air pollution and Health Research Group.

She is also an active member of the NIHR CLEAN–air Africa) research group.
