Dr Patrick Dicker


Dr Patrick Dicker (BA, MA, MSc, CStat) is a Lecturer and Statistician in the Departments of Epidemiology and Public Health Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Rotunda). He is a member of the Data Science Centre.

Patrick’s research interests range from biomarker discovery to clinical medicine to public health epidemiology.

These have included public policy reports and scientific papers on: health and lifestyle surveys in Ireland, health systems research in developing countries, Irish doctor migration studies, cohort studies and clinical trials in maternal-fetal medicine, developmental cohorts in neonates and early childhood, epilepsy pathophysiology, surgical training, biomarker discovery in schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, cardiovascular disease and oncology.

Patrick has particular expertise in the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials from pharmaceutical work experience gained in Ireland, France and Switzerland. He has experience as a biostatistician on clinical trials across various therapeutic areas: breast cancer, HIV, depression, schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, deep vein thrombosis, migraine, acute lung injury, benign prostatic hyperplasia and immunosuppressive therapy (cardiac and renal transplantation).

He is currently a member and advisor on the scientific advisory board for the Irish Epilepsy Association and the Perinatal Ireland Consortium.
