Surgical academic courses

RCSI has successfully shaped and led the training of surgeons since its foundation. This is executed through a wide range of programmes and activities in the National Surgical Training Centre (NSTC) for those wishing to pursue a career in surgery.

Master of Surgery (MCh) by Module

The one-year full-time MCh requires the completion of 90 ECTS credits based on taught modules and a research dissertation. Students will complete the taught modules in the first part of the programme while preparing a research protocol for the dissertation in the second part of the programme.

Masters (MSc) in Human Factors in Patient Safety

The introduction of this Masters in Human Factors in Patient Safety will yield an increased recognition and awareness of the pioneering approach that RCSI has taken to the development of interpersonal skills in surgical trainees. The acquisition of this knowledge and skills will enhance the performance of the surgeon and contribute to the reduction of error and risk.

This programme presents a truly exciting new approach to early surgical education and training. Using state-of-the art training and simulation facilities, this programme is designed to give prospective surgical trainees the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours required to maximise their competitiveness for entry to surgical residency training programmes anywhere in the world.
