Honorary Lecturer in Physiotherapy

Dr Mary Walsh is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the HRB Centre for Primary Care Research, RCSI. Her current research interests encompass healthy ageing, unwarranted clinical variation and the improvement of health outcomes at a health system level.

She graduated from UCD in 2009 with a BSc in Physiotherapy and gained clinical experience in acute hospitals in Vancouver, Canada. On return to Ireland in 2012 she completed a PG Certificate in Older Person Rehabilitation in UCC and worked with the brain injury organisation Headway. Mary was awarded funding by the Irish Research Council to complete a full-time PhD in RCSI, graduating in 2016. Her thesis explored falls-risk after stroke using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies and included the first Irish cohort study to prospectively collect information about falls among survivors of stroke.

Between 2013 and 2015 she also worked closely with Prof. Frances Horgan on national projects investigating community re-integration and return to work after stroke.
