Biography

Marie Guidon graduated from UCD School of Physiotherapy. She began her career in James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown before going on to work in Jervis Street and Richmond Hospitals. During this time she completed specialist training in hydrotherapy in the UK and also completed postgraduate physiotherapy studies in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy in the University of Ulster . She subsequently moved to Beaumont Hospital to take up a Senior post in cardiorespiratory care.

She completed a Diploma in Statistics (Trinity College Dublin) and was awarded a M.Sc. (Research) from Trinity College, Dublin for a study investigating exercise testing and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) as predictors for tolerance of lung resection.

Professor Guidon took up the post of Physiotherapy Manager in St James's Hospital in 1994. During this time she was awarded a Diploma in Management and Industrial Relations from the National College of Ireland. She has represented the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists at regional and national level and has also served as Vice-chairperson and Chairperson of the Society. In 1998 she was appointed Associate Professor of Physiotherapy in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. The first graduates from this school were conferred in November 2002. She is a member of the Irish Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation and the European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation. Her PhD (NUI, RCSI) was awarded for a study entitled "An Exercise intervention for Patients with Intermittent Claudication: Randomised Trial of Health Outcomes and Cost Analysis". Professor Guidon is currently President of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.
