Ailish Malone 



Dr Ailish Malone (née McDermott) graduated from UCD in 2002 with a BSc (First Class Honours) degree in Physiotherapy and was awarded her PhD at RCSI in 2012. She is currently in post at RCSI to replace Dr Dara Meldrum, who is on leave. Ailish also works in clinical practice as Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in the Gait Laboratory at the Central Remedial Clinic, Dublin. Ailish completed her core clinical rotations as a staff grade physiotherapist at Beaumont Hospital from 2002 to 2004, and then spent time working in Australia before returning to Beaumont as senior physiotherapist in neurosurgery in 2005 until 2012. In 2008 she was awarded a Health Research Board Fellowship for her PhD project entitled 'Gait impairment in cervical spondylotic myelopathy: analysis, impact on function and effect of surgical intervention'.

Ailish’s clinical and research interests relate to the scientific understanding of impairment, assessment and measurement of outcome in gait, balance and movement disorders. She was the recipient of the 2010 Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists O’Driscoll O’Neil research bursary. Ailish has contributed to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research supervision at RCSI since 2007 and was appointed Honorary Clinical Lecturer in 2015 prior to taking up her current post. She is a committee member of the Rehabilitation and Therapy Research Society (RTRS) and former chair of the Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology and Gerontology (CPNG).
