Thursday, 25th September 2008- Breast Cancer Ireland at the National Ploughing Championships, Cuffesgrange, Co. Kilkenny

26 September 2008

Representatives from Breast Cancer Ireland attended the annual Ploughing Championships from 23rd to 25th October to promote their Autumn raffle for the new Qashqui which was kindly donated by Nissan. Their aim is to raise funds to help facilitate the implementation of the very latest advances in breast cancer treatment and research and to ensure that they are available to all patients diagnosed with this disease.

Breast Cancer Ireland was established under the direction of Professor Arnold Hill, Professor of Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) to raise much needed funding for breast cancer research in Ireland.  Professor Hill is a leading Breast Surgeon and a recent appointee to the Governments National Cancer Strategy Committee under Professor Tom Keane.

Breast Cancer Ireland is constantly looking for new and improved ways of treating patients with breast cancer. They conduct relevant biological research into breast cancer, its causes and potential treatments.

This year they are raising funds for the provision of personalised patient treatment plans for every patient diagnosed, thereby ensuring that they receive the very best treatment available to combat their own particular form of breast cancer.  New drugs are being developed that can be targeted to specific parts of a patients cancer tissue.  To determine which drugs may be effective for a patient’s cancer requires sophisticated analysis which they hope to make available to all patients.

Their ultimate aim is to facilitate the implementation of the very latest advances in breast cancer treatment and research and to ensure that they are available to all patients diagnosed with this disease.
