RCSI Institute of Leadership to undertake major training project in Saudi Arabia

13 October 2014

The Institute of Leadership (IOL) has won a competitive tender to provide 46 training workshops over the next twelve months in Riyadh and Jeddah. Over the past 18 months, the Institute has established a positive working relationship with the Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI), a department of the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia which accredits all 5000 healthcare organisations in the Kingdom. The Institute has also formed a successful partnership with Knowledge Source Centre (KSC), a healthcare training organisation, based in Riyadh.

A team led by Dr Luke Feeney is currently producing 18 evidence-based practice guides for CBAHI that will be used to bring all healthcare providers into alignment with mandatory standards in the areas of healthcare quality, risk management, audit management, patient safety and information management.  Following the success of this project, the IOL, through a competitive tendering process, has now been awarded a contract to deliver 46 practical workshops over the coming 12 months in Jeddah and Riyadh. This is a substantial project providing €.5m in training fees as well as separately covering all expenses. The project has the potential to be expanded significantly given the scale and rapid development of healthcare organisations in Saudi Arabia.

Speaking after the award of the contract, Professor Ciaran O’Boyle, Director of the Institute said: “Winning this competitive contract represents a new departure for the Institute and for the RCSI. It provides us with the opportunity to assist in the development of the largest healthcare system in the region and it is congruent with RCSI’s mission to produce healthcare leaders who make a difference worldwide. The success of the tender is a tribute to Dr Luke Feeney and his team who have successfully developed the foundations for this project over the past two years.”
