Dignitaries pay visit to Perdana University-RCSI Campus

The new Perdana University-RCSI campus has welcomed a number of important dignitaries to its campus recently. On Friday 19th August His Excellency Mr Declan Kelly, Irish Ambassador to Malaysia and Mr Michael Garvey, Director of Enterprise Ireland visited the Perdana University-RCSI for a tour of the campus and its facilities. The Ambassador met with the PU-RCSI Foundation Dean, Prof Anthony Cunningham along with Faculty staff, before being led on a visit of the campus by Prof Cunningham and the CEO of Perdana University, Major General Dato Pahlawan Dr Mohan Dass.

On Sunday 21 August Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, former Prime Minister of Malaysia visited the University in advance of his installation as Chancellor of the University.  Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Mohan Swami, Chairman of Perdana University Board of Governors, accompanied him on his 2-hour visit.  The University's Chief Executive Maj. General Dato Pahlawan Dr. R Mohanadas coordinated the greeting ceremony and the tour of the campus facilities.

On his visit Mr Declan Kelly, Irish Ambassador, commented on the impressive facilities and the speed at which the installation was carried out - in a mere four months from the initial planning stages. He also highlighted the importance of the long standing medical education links between Malaysia and Ireland and RCSI's major contribution to medical and surgical training in both Ireland and abroad. Such education links are of huge economic benefit to Ireland and testament to the excellent reputation of Ireland's educational institutions worldwide and RCSI's in particular.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, a graduate of the King Edward VII College of Medicine, Singapore (Class of 1947) is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He became the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia on 16 July 1981.  During his 22-year term as Prime Minister, Malaysia was transformed from a predominately agricultural economy into an industrial powerhouse that has become the 17th-largest trading nation in the world.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be installed as Chancellor, Perdana University, on Monday 12 September 2011 in a ceremony to be attended by the Rt. Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia, Cabinet Ministers, Ambassadors and Senior Government Officials.
