17 April 2016

The Irwin Cup is an annual cricket match played between the pre-clinical and clinical years of RCSI, dating back to 1992. This year's match was played on the 9th April 2016.

The juniors won the toss and elected to field. A strong start by the senior's opening pair enabled them to race to 0/20 of 3 overs. A change of bowlers reaped immediate rewards for juniors with Mickhael and Aarish picking up wickets in their first overs. As wickets fell continually throughout the senior's innings, Amandeep cemented himself at the crease, tormenting the junior bowlers with elegant cover drives, classy leg glances and Ricky Ponting like pull shots. Despite ending the innings one short of his half century, Amadeep was able to guide the seniors to the respectable of 112 off their 20 overs.

In response, the juniors got off to a steady start. Openers, Aathir and Aaron combined for a 50 run partnership, posting 56 off the first 10 overs. Despite the fall of steady wickets during the middle of their innings, the juniors rallied to require 26 of the last 4 overs with 5 wickets in hand. However excellent death bowling pushed the equation in favour of the seniors, with the juniors requiring 22 of the last 2 overs. This proved too difficult for the juniors with the seniors running away as 16 run winners, breaking the juniors strangle hold on the trophy since 2010.
