Orthopaedic Research Night and Stryker Demonstration

On Thursday January 26th, The Orthopaedic Society held an event highlighting student research and providing a demonstration on current medical devices. 6 students from RCSI were chosen to present their past research in an open forum led by Mr. James Walsh, an orthopaedic surgeon at Beaumont Hospital. Shane Farrington, Andrew Maye, Kushal Khera, Sarvenaz Esmailzadeh, Evan Lian, and Eoghan Hurley presented in front of forty of their RCSI peers, and had the chance to promote their research and answer questions. Each presentation highlighted the strength of research RCSI students are currently undertaking, and the commitment RCSI students have in the pursuit of scientific research.

Following the research talks, a medical device company Stryker, held an information session for event attendees on current orthopaedic and medical devices. A group of 4 Stryker representatives took students through a variety of devices used in the fields of orthopaedics, neurosurgery, and many others. Students had the opportunity to both ask questions and handle medical devices. By doing so, RCSI students were able to gain a better understanding of the devices used in every day surgery.

Well done to all who attended this informative event.
