RCSI student represents England in international fencing competition

Congratulations to Gemma Wright Ballester (RCSI, SC2) for once again being selected to represent England at the Student Fencing 5 Nations Competition, which took place on 14 July in Leeds.

Every year the top student fencers studying in universities across England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland compete for the title of the best student fencers in the British Isles.

After maintaining her ranked national position of 15th throughout the year in Ireland, Gemma was chosen for the England Ladies Foil Team. The team had a successful day at the 5 Nations Competition, winning all of their matches, which led them to Ladies Foil Team gold and ultimately, England being announced as the overall winners of the event.

Gemma was also elected as the overall England Team Co-Captain, meaning England Captain, Timothy Devenport (UoL) and Gemma were jointly awarded the overall winners competition trophy sword.
