Biography:            Professor Caroline Jefferies, a foundation scholar of Trinity College Dublin, was awarded her degree in 1997 (Gold Medalist), followed by a PhD in 2001 by the Department of Biochemistry, TCD. Her work into the area of Molecular Immunology was recognised by the International Cytokine Society with the Outstanding Scholar Award and the Sheldon Wolffe prize in Immunology. On her return from sabbatical to UMASS Medical School, Dr. Jefferies took up her current position at RCSI having secured an SFI Principal Investigator Award. Her team discovered novel regulators of anti-viral responses, which play an important role in the development of autoimmunity and SLE. It is hoped these discoveries may ultimately lead to novel treatments for the management of SLE.  Departed RCSI for position with Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, March, 2015.
