Current position: Professor of Neuroscience, Professor Emeritus 

Biography: John received a BA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge and a PhD, followed by a DSc, from the University of London. After working with the Medical Research Council, UK, he joined RCSI where he holds the title of Professor of Neuroscience. In 2003, he became the first person from RCSI to be elected to membership of the Royal Irish Academy. In 2004 he was appointed Head of Clinical Pharmacology, and joined the Executive of MCT, a post he held until January 2016.  In 2016 he was awarded the tile of Professor Emeritus and became the first RCSI staff member to receive this title in the modern era.
