Since RCSI’s foundation in 1784 the College has been responsible for training surgeons and maintaining surgical standards in Ireland. The Colles Institute endeavours to ensure that the RCSI continues to meet the future needs of surgical patients and surgeons. The Institute’s goal is to enhance the care of the surgical patient by extending the frontiers of clinical standards, both therapeutic strategies and technologies and by providing education and training to enable the rapid transfer of these standards into practice. Its activities are primarily in surgical practice, education and training, research and technology innovation.
