In education and training, the National Surgical Training Centre provides lifelong surgical education and training to trainees, surgeons, and the surgical team. The Irish Surgical Postgraduate Training Committee (ISPTC) is responsible for the following:

Supervision of the training of surgeons in approved clinical posts
Current RCSI training programmes

Trainees in all surgical specialties who have successfully completed two years of Basic Surgical Training and the MRCS examination may apply for the Master of Surgery (MCh) by Module.

Higher Surgical Training is provided in Emergency Medicine and in 10 surgical specialties.
