National Heritage Week 2017

RCSI will opens its historic doors to the public for three days during National Heritage Week, from Monday, 21 August until Wednesday, 23 August.

Free tours of the building will take place at 11am, 2pm and 5pm on each day departing from the main entrance to the College on St Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2.

During these tours, attendees will learn about the rich heritage and history of the College and the part it has played in both local and national history over the past 230 years; including when the building was seized by rebels led by Michael Mallin and Countess Markievicz during the 1916 Easter Rising. Tours of RCSI will be conducted by Bryan Sheils (Front of House Manger, RCSI) and Frank Donegan (Head Porter, RCSI).

Fitting in with this year's National Heritage Week theme, ‘Nature and People’, tours will delve into the history of the RCSI Museum, which began life late in the 18th century on Mercer Street. Guests will get the opportunity to see some impressive specimens from the RCSI Natural History Specimen Collection, a rarely seen collection of almost 200 contributions.
