RCSI HOSPITALS: BACKGROUND AND GROWTH
In May 2013, the Minister for Health announced "the
reorganisation of public hospitals into more efficient and
accountable hospital groups that will deliver improved
outcomes for patients." In addition, he stated: "This
represents the most fundamental reform of the Irish acute
hospital system in decades." Six hospital groups were
established across the country, with each group including a
primary academic partner "to stimulate a culture of learning
and openness to change within the hospital group".
RCSI is the academic partner in RCSI Hospitals the Dublin
north-east area hospital group, which includes Beaumont,
Cavan, Monaghan, Connolly, Louth County, Our Lady of
Lourdes Drogheda and Rotunda Hospitals.
RCSI is supportive of, and engaged with, all planned
activities to progress the success of the RCSI Hospitals
Group in its journey towards independent Trust status.
CLINICIAN PARTNERSHIP SUPPORT
RCSI's role as the academic partner in the RCSI Hospitals
Group represents an excellent opportunity to strengthen
relationships with clinicians. RCSI Hospitals further
substantiates the relationship with a number of RCSI's
teaching hospitals, which provide invaluable teaching and
training opportunities for RCSI students.
The involvement of RCSI in the RCSI Hospitals Group creates
opportunities within the Irish hospital system to share
expertise, knowledge and resources.
