two day conference for RCSI alumni
was held in the Mohammed Bin Rashid
Academic Medical Centre in Dubai
Healthcare City on April 30 and May 1.
Opened by Dr Mohammad Al Redha,
Chairperson of RCSI UAE Alumni Chapter, the
conference heard from a line-up of international
speakers including RCSI alumni, RCSI staff from
campuses worldwide, and healthcare and business
leaders from the Gulf region.
Highlights of the event included an insightful talk from
Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai
Duty Free (DDF) who spoke on the topic of leadership
in the context of the development of DDF. RCSI
alumni addressing the conference included Dr Farhad
Kheradmand Aljanahi, Specialist Urologist and Transplant
Surgeon at Dubai Hospital who delivered an entertaining
talk on leadership, in the context of setting up a kidney
transplant programme in Dubai Hospital.
Dr Amer Sharif, Managing Director of Education at Dubai
Healthcare City closed the first day's proceedings with
a thought-provoking keynote lecture on `Leadership
for Career Development in Healthcare - the UAE
perspective'. RCSI staff speakers included Professor
Ciaran O'Boyle, Director of the RCSI Institute of
Leadership; Professor David Whitford, RCSI Bahrain, Dr
Alice McGarvey, RCSI Dublin; and Dr Mary Collins, RCSI
Institute of Leadership .
The RCSI UAE Chapter is extremely vibrant with more
than 400 alumni. Alumni in the region are encouraged to
register their email addresses with the Alumni Office to
keep up to date with upcoming events.
