Continuous Professional Development Support Scheme

At the request of the Health Service Executive, RCSI have developed a specialty specific Continuous Professional Development Support Scheme (CPDSS) to facilitate NCHD's in surgery and emergency medicine who are not engaged in specialist training to maintain their professional competence.

This enables NCHD's enrolled in the scheme to achieve a minimum of 20 external credits per annum. These credits can be counted towards meeting the NCHD’s requirements as stipulated by the Medical Council regarding the maintenance of professional competence. For 2017-18 we will offer an expanded range of courses including Surgical Skills, Emergency Medicine, Clinical Audit, Quality Improvement Processes, Research & Ethics and Computers for Doctors.

Our skills courses will be aimed at SHO’s or senior registrars depending on the course. Our ‘Human Factors in Patient Safety’ modules will be of interest to all grades & specialties and will feature some topics delivered by the Medical Protection Society (MPS) Our courses in Research, Clinical Audit and Computers skills  will have an emphasis on specific skills relevant to Doctors.

If you are an NCHD registered with CPD_SS in your own training body you can attend classes here in RCSI once you meet the eligibility criteria set out in the guidance document above and register for the scheme.
