This workshop contextualises the role of research in the personal and professional development of nurses in Ireland. The workshop will highlight the opportunities and benefits for nurses who engage proactively with the research process. It provides a platform for all nurses, irrespective of their experience or post-graduate status, to reflect on and engage with other colleagues to better appreciate and understand research in a non-judgemental, collaborative learning environment.

  • To provide registered nurses and midwives with up-to-date, evidenced based knowledge to critically develop nurses’ theoretical and practical understanding of the role of research in their personal and professional development.
  • To support registered nurses and midwives in enhancing their confidence, skills and competences, with regard to developing reflection, insight and knowledge around the value and impact of research on their personal and professional development.

At the end of this CPD programme, participants will be able to:
  • Critically analyse the role of research in personal and professional development.
  • Critically discuss the role of research in modern healthcare delivery.
  • Critically reflect on the opportunities to collaborate in partnership with academic institutions.
  • Critically discuss how interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research has assumed greater significance (new ideas/solutions are explored at the intersection of distinct previous fields).
  • Critically reflect on potential research projects and funding opportunities.
  • Critically discuss research opportunities within one’s own role.
