Improving Community Nursing Practice through Clinical Supervision

his programme provides a theoretical overview of clinical supervision which will support and enable nurses and midwives to build on and enhance their skills in clinical supervision, promote and provide standards of care and positive client outcomes in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics (NMB1, 2014), in a continuing changing community nursing environment.

Programme aims

  • To provide registered nurses and midwives with a critical theoretical overview of clinical supervision and its practical application to nursing practice in community care settings.
  • To enable registered nurses and midwives to develop their understanding of clinical supervision and its role in promoting positive client outcomes.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this CPD programme, participants will be able to:

  • Critically discuss the main theories, relevant policy, core principles and functions of supervision.
  • Critically analyse the models of clinical supervision and apply a model to guide and structure clinical supervision sessions.
  • Critically evaluate the role and responsibilities of the supervisor and the supervisee.
  • Critically analyse factors such as confidentiality, consent and record keeping in clinical supervision.
