Advanced General Surgical Skills

Overview

This is a gastrointestinal skills course that concentrates on the management of hernias, bowel anastomosis and bowel diversion surgery.

During the course, you will learn procedures using low and high fidelity models with the constructive feedback of experienced consultants in general and colorectal surgery.

Learning objectives

  • Improve your decision-making in bowel closure methods or diversion
  • Understand the principals of bowel tissue handling and suturing
  • Understand and practice the creation of an end ileostomy
  • Understand and practice the creation of a loop ileostomy
  • Understand and practice the creation of a colostomy
  • Know the up-to-date principals in hernia repair
  • Have more confidence in performing an inguinal hernia repair
Who is this course suitable for? Registrars in general surgery and colorectal surgery.
Fee Free for eligible NCHDs on the CPDSS programme or €300 for others.
