01/02/2017 - Prof W. Arthur Tanner - RIP

Prof W. Arthur Tanner

It is with great sadness that the Faculty wishes to inform you of the death of Prof W. Arthur Tanner.

Prof Tanner was part of the team of clinicians involved in the set-up of this Faculty a number of years ago.  He served on various FSEM Committees over the years, such as the Accreditation Committee, and the PCS Committee, to name but a few. Most recently, he had been involved in the Medical Council Accreditation and the design of our SpR Training Programme in Sports and Exercise Medicine, and he had served as FSEM Vice-Dean for 2 years between 2013 and 2015.

Arthur brought extensive experience and expertise to much of our projects, and was an invaluable member of our Faculty. He previously held the role of Director of Surgical Affairs for many years in RCSI, and still served on RCSI Council to date. He used to say that "retirement wasn't for him".

He was a true gentleman, and will be sorely missed by all of us.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Ann, and the rest of his family at this time.

May he rest in peace.

Dr Padraig Sheeran
